Notes:
Baker’s Dozen was written in the spring of 1995 for Lynne
Plowman and Sally Hillier whilst traveling between London and
Dartington. The work draws its title and structure from the superstition
surrounding the première date, Friday 13th, and comprises thirteen short
miniatures, each dramatically contrasting in style and tempi. This piece
marks the beginning of a fascination with miniature forms in my
compositional work.
